What is Screen Printing?

Screen printing is a type of stencil printing.
Stencil printing is a printing method in which ink is rubbed into the stencil through which holes are made in the stencil itself.
"Gariban" (the official name is mimeograph. Did you know?) is closer, but I think "print play" is easier for young people to understand.

In screen printing, ink is placed on a silk screen that is hardened with emulsion on areas not required for printing, and the ink is transferred by rubbing it with a squeegee. At first, it was called silk screen printing because silk was used for the screen.
Today, silk is not used, and screens woven with fibers such as nylon and tetoron, or stainless steel wires are used. For that reason, recently the "silk" has come off and is simply called screen printing.

Ink is extruded through the openings between the threads.

To explain in detail, first, the screen is stretched and fixed to the frame, then a film is created on top of it by hand or using a method using photographs, etc., and the screen is covered with screens other than the necessary patterns to make a plate.
Next, ink is put into the frame, and a rubber spatula called a squeegee is used to press the top surface of the screen while moving it. Then, the ink passes through the screen mesh of the part without the film, and is pushed out to the top surface of the printing material placed under the plate, and the printing is performed.
In other words, it can be said to be a type of stencil printing that makes good use of the grain of the screen.

It represents the image to which the ink is transferred.
The structure of the printing press is omitted.

It can print on almost any material, including glass, plastic, synthetic resin, metal, and cloth, as well as paper, so it is often used when there is a need to print on materials other than paper.
In addition, it is a major feature that it can print not only on flat surfaces, but also on cylindrical and conical shapes such as bottles and cups, as well as on curved surfaces.
For example, you can print chocolate patterns on candy, or print a heater on the rear window of your car.
